My name is Samara, I'm in my twenties and I live in Port Saint Lucie Florida. Some of my hobbies include writing, reading, horseback riding, roleplaying, voice acting, singing, acting, camping, rock climbing, swimming, canoeing, hiking and baking.
I am visually impaired and recently received my first guide dog, a male black lab named Tony from Guide Dogs For The Blind. I attended training at the San Rafael campus from June 27 to July 16 2011.
You can follow my progress and read about my experience at the following places:

I'm a writer, a singer, a sister and a daughter. I moved to Florida in November of 2009 and haven't looked back since.
"I have a visual impairment. It does not have me."
As someone whose lived my life gradually losing what sight I had when I was a child, I believe the above saying with all my heart. I thought it up one day and it's stayed with me ever since. I believe in equal rights for all people with disibilities, and it's my goal to make a difference in whatever community I may be a part of at the time.
My current goal is to assist in making braille menus accessible to the restaurants in my community that don't have them.
I'm interested in getting to know other blind and visually impaired bloggers. I think I could learn a lot from other people who experience many of the same things I myself go through on a daily basis. I'm especially eager to meet other guide dog users and blind parents.
It isn't just blind and visually impaired people I'm interested in meeting, though. I'm eager to befriend almost anyone, no matter your sex, race, ethnicity, disibility; you could be a purple alien from the planet Kibblekong and if you were simply your amazing self, whoever that may be, I'd probably still friend you. So if you think we have anything in common, feel free to friend me.
When it comes to fanfiction, I'm a bit of a fandom recluse. I have my comfort zones and I rarely venture far from them. My most prominent fandoms are Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, though I've also been known to dabble in the terrifying world of Twilight and the wondrous worlds of Narnia and Prydain. I've also taken a shot at the insanely mystifying world of Alagaesia and the Dark Materials universe.
As for original fiction, I greatly enjoy both reading and writing fantasy, historical fantasy, modern fantasy, mythology/legends, mythological romance, romance, historical romance, Highland romance, supernatural and many other genres. The above are simply my favorites.
Authors I deeply respect include J. R. R. Tolkien, C. S. Lewis, Lloyd Alexander, Phyllip Pullman, Robin McKinley, Kathleen E. Woodiwiss and Octavia Randolph.
Below is a list of my favorite books and series of all time. They're not in order of preference or anything, so don't look to me as a novel title ranking critic or something equally as weird. I'll admit I love Lord of the Rings above anything else, but that's all the favoritism I'll own up to.
Harry Potter and The Inheritance Cycle have their good points, but, in my opinion, they were series' that started out with promise and fell down the chute of plot holey crappiness over time. I'll always adore them (what does that say about my sanity?), and they'll never leave my fanfic repertoire, but they hold more eye-rolling disappointment than fascination for me to ever consider allowing them back into my booky faves.
In Regard To Writing:
"The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers, wider Freeways, but narrower viewpoints.
We spend more, but have less, we buy more, but enjoy less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time.
We have more degrees but less sense, more knowledge, but less judgment, more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.
We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often.
We've learned how to make a living, but not a life.
We've added years to life, not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor.
We've conquered outer space, but not inner space.
We've done larger things, but not better things.
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul.
We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice.
We write more, but learn less.
We plan more, but accomplish less.
We've learned to rush, but not to wait.
We build more computers to hold more information, to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion, big men and small character, steep profits and shallow relationships.
These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses, but broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer, to quiet, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the showroom window and nothing in the stockroom.
Remember; spend some time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever.
Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart and it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember, to say, 'I love you' to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all, mean it.
A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you.
Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again.
Give time to love, give time to speak! And give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
AND ALWAYS REMEMBER: Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

- The Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien
- The Chronicles of Narnia by C. S. Lewis
- The Chronicles of Prydain by Lloyd Alexander
- Again the Magic by Lisa Kleypas
- Everlasting by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss
- The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen E. Woodiwiss
- His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman
- Rebellion by Nora Roberts
- The Circle of Ceridwen by Octavia Randolph
Harry Potter and The Inheritance Cycle have their good points, but, in my opinion, they were series' that started out with promise and fell down the chute of plot holey crappiness over time. I'll always adore them (what does that say about my sanity?), and they'll never leave my fanfic repertoire, but they hold more eye-rolling disappointment than fascination for me to ever consider allowing them back into my booky faves.
In Regard To Writing:
- I write both het and slash, though the latter has a slightly higher survival rate in the warzone that is my harddrive.
- I know I enjoy reading long chapters, so I endeavour to write them as well. You will rarely find a multi-chaptered story of mine where a single chapter is less than 5,000 words.
- In any of my full-length fics, there will always be an aspect of romance. There will also, most likely, always be lemons sprinkled throughout the story. If you don't like the taste of lemons, you probably won't enjoy most of what I write. I won't write sex just to write it most of the time, but it will, eventually, find its way into my plotlines.
- I adore many of the cliches. They're fun and they're a challenge. As a writer, I make it my goal to take something overused and exhausted and transform it into something at least semi-unique and interesting.
- I believe there is always room for improvement. If you're respectful with your criticism, I will take everything you say into consideration.
- I do not tolerate flames. All my stories are labeled with warnings where they are necessary. As stated above, constructive criticism is greatly appreciated, but I do not have the time to ease the feelings of each and every fandom purist due to the injustices they feel have been committed against their beloved works. If you don't like what I write, then there's a very simple solution. Don't read it. If you feel the need to flame, go play with matches. I will not tolerate attacks against my inteligence, person or readers. One flame will get you reported for abuse, a second will see you banned.
